Aeiou

What a crazy week! Finally I can squeeze out some time to do a throw back on Aeiou cafe at 111 King George's Avenue.

This cafe is not far away from Lavender Mrt station compared to Tiramisu Hero and Two Bakers. It's under an old shop house with quite a misleading name.

See what I mean? It's underneath Oriental Antique House.

Outdoor seats. You can sit on all sorts of old school chairs.

Really old school..reminded me of the childhood days.

So true..
Selling seeds for your green fingers withdrawals. I also have been planting indoors, it is so satisfying to see the plants grow from seeds to sprouts.

I really appreciate the vertical planting and the cafe's effort to make every corner to have a touch of greenery.

Look at the fan at the left side, the chairs, the bus and the car at the bottom right. Everything is really so old school..I hope they are clean..

I have smelt some of them..not bad.

Right, GST already included in the price and no service charge. Makes your life easier.

My lunch kaki's latte ($5.50), as usual. There's no skim or soy milk, FYI. If you must ask how was the latte, my lunch kaki said "not bad! Better than xx xx cafe nearby". It's difficult to get a compliment from my lunch kaki, you know? hehehe...

My Avocado Coffee ($8). See the 2 cups of espresso and the ice blended avocado. I've tried the ice blended avocado, it was super yummy! I almost couldn't bear to pour the espresso in..I highly recommend you to order this. Oh! Notice the glass? Alcoholics, you should be very familiar.

My avocado mixed with coffee..still yummy, but avocado taste not as strong already as the fragrant espresso had overwritten the aroma. Love love love it..

My lunch kaki's Beef Cheek Pasta ($24.90), with tagliatelle pasta fused with a Tangy balsamic vinegar. He said it's not too sour but pasta was slightly tough, beef cheek was tender and marinated well, tasted like our chinese traditional pig knuckles in vinegar for mothers in confinement. hahahaha...that's his description.

My vegetarian Tortellini ($17.90), pasta dumplings stuffed with ricotta and parmigiano cheese in homemade tomato stew. This dish was very appetizing, the pasta skin was soft but didn't burst or split. The dumpling fillings were not too much and vegetable inside was cooked just right. I could feel many different texture in this dish. I also recommend this to my vegetarian mates.

Overall, this cafe is a very pleasant place for fresh air and high ceiling. The background bosanova music soft enough for us to talk without shouting or repeating and the waiters asked us for the feedback on the food. However, there was no free flow of water and we needed to keep asking for it.

Oh ya, they have beer and wines too.

They do arrange for private events, so do check out their facebook below before you whatapps your bff to go there:

Two Bakers

Right. This is another cafe at Jalan Besar area, Two Bakers.

You see the guy in grey shirt? He provides very good service and always smiles..

Once I went into the cafe, I felt happy because it has my favourite flower, baby breath all over the place.. see the big bunch on the glass tank? Love love love them..

The cakes looked yummy..but I was too full to try one.

Not sure if this is baby breath too, but I love it! It's on every table..

Matcha Latte ($5.50) with skim milk. They do not have soy milk but this Matcha Latte was thick, creamy and not sweet which I prefer. However it can be richer and more fragrant.

Latte ($5.50) with skim milk. My lunch kaki didn't like it, said it was "siap siap" (waxy after taste).

Butternut Mushroom Risotto ($13.80) with butternut pumpkin, Mushroom and cheddar cheese. Menu says it serves with 3 slices of baguette. My lunch kaki said "how come only 2 slices?"....hahahaha...
Risotto's presentation was pretty and colorful. The mushroom was really delicious. I love mushroom but only mushroom with strong taste and this satisfied me. The rice was sticky which I actually prefer silky risotto. I think the cheddar cheese was too generous, made me feel gluttony after a few mouths. Baguette was quite hard. In summary, after you finished this risotto, you won't have space for cakes.

Overall, I love the interior decoration with a small touch of real flowers, the service was good, free flow of water and background English pop songs were soft enough for you to chat with your friends.

Maybe I should try their sandwiches and cakes next time to do them some justice.

Sufood (舒果)

This young restaurant (opened in May 2014) offers quite unique vegetarian dishes which are Italian inspired. Having able to find a vegetarian restaurant at City Hall area is hard enough, let alone in Italian style.

It is totally non-meat cuisine and if you are a Vegan, you can let them know your diet constraints and they will satisfy you without difficulty.

Sufood has 7 courses meal at $29.80++ per person option and ala carte, allowing you to have fine vegetarian dishes without having to burn a hole in your wallet.

We went for the 7 courses option.

The interior design is not really special.. It can be quite packed and noisy too.

These are the courses Sufood offers.. They are Starter, bread, cider, salad, soup, main, dessert and drink.

From bottom to top: Poached Japanese yuca root drizzled with a blueberry coulis, white water snowflake greens and a savoury cherry tomato jelly. From the 3, I like the jelly most because it is slightly sour and appetizing.

Mushroom salad which has Button and Shiitake mushrooms, broccoli and cherry tomatoes in vinegar dressing. The presentation wasn't pleasant but the mushrooms were soft and fresh. Slightly cold.

Classic green salad with fresh leaves and vegetables served with a unique creamy homemade Caesar dressing or a special sesame sauce. This is fragrant and not oily.

Roseberry breadstick with a sweet mustard and blueberry dip. The breadsticks were soft and dipping into the sauce given really compliments the texture of the breadsticks. Flowers not included.

Pumpkin soup is rich and thick.

I love lotus root so I got myself Root soup that has Burdock root, lotus root and cashew nuts. This soup is refreshing but will be good if it can bring out the taste and fragrance of lotus root.

Vegetable pita pockets. It has mushroom, pepper and broccoli baked in Arrabbiata jalapeño sauce and served with toasted pita bread pockets. The sauce can be quite spicy and has strong tomato taste. The balls had powdery texture when I chewed them. The pita pockets were so soft like they were barely there in my mouth when I ate it with the dish. Interesting..

Macaroni Alfredo Casserole. was delicious with peppers, asparagus and oyster mushrooms and topped with grilled cherry tomatoes and a layer of melted parmesan cheese. Very filling and satisfying...

I ordered Ashitaba and banana cheesecake drizzled with blueberry sauce. Ashitaba was quite funky..

Osmanthus flower jelly and The very berry that has blackcurrants and elderberries. The jelly wasn't easy to eat as it was very slippery and soft. The very berry was super funky and sour..I think Ashitaba was better..

The waitresses controlled our speed of eating by keep serving us course after course immediately. Kind of rush though.. Also they provided a cider for us to clean our palate, I have to warn you that you cannot drink too much of it as it is sour..just sip it will do.

Overall, this is a place to try out at least once for new experience.

So here are my comments:
